Changed personality after drinking
This week was about a person whose personality changes while drinking. I decided instead to focus on the idea of somebody who changes very drastically after drinking and in a more permanent manner.
The Aftershave Incident
Oakley Bambridge lived the life of the alpha male. A high rolling job, every one of his male colleagues wanted to be in his position. He didn’t stop when people called his name as he knew they would follow to tell him what he needed to know. However, he was also a massive misogynist. A prick through and through and the kind of man that only those in ‘the lads club’ would consider to actually be a role model.
After a particularly successful month at work, he decided that everyone should be rewarded for their work and a night out on the town was what he decided! Invites went out to everyone who helped him work on the work - sorry, all the men who helped him work, and it was set to be a night that nobody would forget. And so that evening, he went home to get ready, put on one of his array of tailored slim fit suits (they fit a little snugly these days but nobody dared to tell him), threw on his Tom Ford aftershave, stacked his wallet full of cash and left for the night out; telling his wife to not wait up as he would be home late.
“I need a IV drip fast”
“Jesus Christ he smells like a brewery”
“What do you mean nobody brought him in?”
He finally opened his eyes to an array of bright lights and wondered where the hell he was. “It’s finally good to see you awake Mr Bambridge”, said the man in the long white coat, “you’ve had a bad case of alcohol poisoning. But your levels have stabilised and we’ll be able to send you home soon”. Oakley thanked the man before sitting up and realising that it had been a night he’d remember, just for the alcohol poisoning and not for what had actually happened that night. It wasn’t long before he was in a taxi headed for home. On the counter at home laid a note from his wife. “Off to Paris, back in a few days, see you when I get back”.
The following day, he woke up, ready to head back to work. His morning ritual began; showered, shaved, and now for some aftershave. Today he put on something a little different; something he’d never realised he had from a small company called Chanel. He then caught himself in the mirror, he looked a bit rough but the spot on his cheek was awful, he couldn’t be having that. Fishing around for some cream to help reduce it, he found something that looked a similar packet to what his wife had given him and applied it. To his surprise, it seemed to conceal and hide the spot as well. No harm in putting a little bit more on to cover up the smaller spots right? With that complete, he opened his wardrobe. Maybe a suit wouldn’t be best today, he needed something with less fabric to help keep him cool as it was a warm day. He selected a new garment from the wardrobe, got dressed and headed out the door to work.
He found it rather odd when he started hearing the jeers and sneers from people as he walked by but he also knew he’d been gone a few days. Probably just jokes about how he couldn’t hold his liquor these days, he wasn’t as young as he once was. Every time he tried to catch someone to get an update on the next project, they would avoid him or ask him to ‘put it in the calendar’. This was very unlike usual, the aftershave he chose couldn’t be that bad now could it? Maybe he was demanding less respect now he wasn’t wearing his suits? What a joke that would have been. After a while of catching up on emails and busybodying himself, given no one wanted to talk to him that day, he left and went home early.
As he pulled up on the drive, he found multiple cars on the driveway which he did not recognise. Opening the door and waltzing into the living room, he found his wife with her friends. As soon as he entered a few of them almost choked on their drinks and had to muffle some laughter. “Honey I’m home” he announced expecting a happy response. Instead she turned to face him and had shock horror on her face. “Is everything alright?”. “Perhaps, Oakley, you can explain to me why you are standing there, smelling of my perfume, wearing a face full of makeup and wearing my favourite dress!”
